<BODY> <H1>Avignon and Provence in the South of France in one day by fast train… Or two days and one night in Avignon</H1> <P>You will be picked up at your hotel and taken to the Gare de Lyon station. There you will be settled in the world’s fastest train for your adventure into deepest France. You will whizz across 700 km in two and a half hours and see the varied and green land of France. You will arrive at Avignon station, to be received by our local guide. With him you will enjoy a whole day of historical visits, starting with the lovely and ancient city of Avignon, seat of the Pope in the middle ages and now the home of the national theater festival every summer. On your guided visit you will see the famous palais des Papes, the bridge made famous in the song, “sur le pont d’Avignon”, and the charming squares of this pretty town. After lunch on your own, for the rest of the day you will visit several picturesque little villages in the countryside around. You will see roman ruins, medieval villages, a lavender museum, vineyards with wine tasting… At the end return to Avignon to catch your fast train back to Paris at 7<SPAN CLASS=sc> pm,</SPAN> arriving back at Gare de Lyon at 9:40 pm: A truly memorable day in the lovely countryside of Provence.</P> <P><STRONG>Two Day Package</STRONG>: Tuesdays in the summer. Door step pick up from your hotel on Tuesday at 6:45 am and transfer to Paris Lyon station. We settle you into your train journey to Avignon, and give you maps and literature so that you can enjoy your day in Avignon on your own. On arrival, transfer by shuttle to a two-star hotel (twin sharing, breakfast included but no other meals, single supplement 50 euros). You are then free to explore Avignon on your own. Tickets to the Palais des Papes and a river cruise included. On Wednesday you join the above tour, with the tour guide, to see Avignon and its environs by minibus.
